Dear Brent,

This is a wonderful drawing. Could you please provide some details regarding the function of the four different stomachs? Do you have any sense of how they may have evolved over time?

They say some super-models are chimeras (neither male or female, unable to reproduce) though they don't look like these chimeras. They are excessively tall and almost hairless.

Of course, they can adopt.

Grrrreat reading in LA by the way. I am your sheep. (Before you get any ideas, remember: a sheep is a sacred responsibility.)

Hello, Neil,

The four-chambered stomach of today's goats, sheep, cattle, deer, giraffes and other ruminants all evolved from the four-chambered stomach of the Chimera. Most Chimera researchers and Chimera scientists feel its function was probably basically the same: food goes into the rumen, is regurgitated, cud is chewed (by the goat head in this case), then returns, often bypassing the rumen, then proceeding to be broken down further on its journey through the reticulum, the omasum and the abomasum. The abosmasum is known in ruminants today as the "true stomach," but in the Chimera the "true stomach" was the fifth chamber, i.e the stomach shared equally by the lion and goat portions of its body. Hope that helps!

Dear Brent,

Thank you for your detailed answer! I feel much better knowing that the true stomach in the Chimera is shared equally among the myriad parts. I also think that it is very compelling that all these different types of stomach have actually evolved from those of the Chimera. I wonder what the human stomach might owe to the wonders of the Chimera? Perhaps, comfortingly, there might be something of the Chimera in all of us.
